6 Easy Tips On How To Drink More Water

staying hydrated with water

Let’s face it, most of us could do with drinking a lot more water. Unfortunately, it’s surprisingly tricky to remember to keep drinking water throughout the day – particularly if you have a pretty hectic schedule. In this post, I will discuss 6 quick and easy tips on how to drink more water.

Chugging down energy drinks and coffee might make it easier to get through a rough day at work, but it doesn’t do much for your health. We all need a decent amount of clean, fresh water to keep all of our cells operating at their best.

Why Do We Need To Stay Hydrated?

  • helps to improve the look of your skin
  • helps to keep you younger for longer
  • relieves headache
  • lubricates painful joints
  • Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) prevention
  • boosts energy
  • helps digestion
  • regulates body temperature
  • helps to flush body waste

The body is 60% water and according to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158,

“the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.”

On average, an adult male needs around 3 litres (12 cups) per day and adult females needs around 2.2 litres (9 cups) per day.

6 Easy Tips On How To Drink More Water

place water near bedside table1. Start the day hydrated!

Most of us go through a robotic pattern in the first 30 minutes after getting up. You know the familiar routine –  open eyes, contemplate on getting up, check phone, brush teeth, eat breakfast, get dressed.

Now add in a glass of water near your bedside table and the process of incorporating this into your routine is really simple – and before you know it, you will be doing it without even realising it.

2. Always have water on hand

If you don’t have access to water, it can be difficult to remember that you should always be drinking. Always carry a high-quality refillable water bottle with you to increase your chances of reaching your goal.

If you don’t want to run between the kitchen and your desk too frequently when at work, it’s worth getting a large enough bottle.

Though it might sound simplistic, the reality is you’re a lot more likely to sip at the water from your bottle if it’s convenient. So why not make life easier for yourself?

3. Drink a glass of water every time you eat

One of the best ways to get into the habit of drinking water is to do it every time you do something else.

Try drinking a full glass of water at the same time as eating something, whether it’s a meal or a snack. This should make sure that, even if you forget to drink throughout the day, you get at least a couple of full glasses into your routine.

I prefer drinking room temperature water when eating rather than ice-cold water. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, drinking ice-cold water isn’t good for the body as it can cause an imbalance.

Drinking water during a meal also has other benefits. Water can aid in digestion, so you’re less likely to get a tummy ache, and it can make you feel fuller, so you don’t overeat or binge on unhealthy foods.

This is such a popular tip these days that you can actually get water bottles with times stamped on them. Alternatively, just mark lines on your water bottle to correspond with certain times.

The idea is to have a big enough bottle that you can chug down a decent amount of H20 throughout the day.

If you need to fill your bottle once at work, the lines could count for 8, 10, 12, and 2 for the first half of the day, then 4, 6, 8, and 10 for the second half. It’s up to you to determine how quickly you drink your allocated amounts of water, but the more you drink – the better.

5. Set alarms on your phone

Try setting a few alarms each day to remind you to drink a bit of water. Even if you ignore one of your alarms, such as when you hit the snooze button each morning, you should be able to get a decent amount of hydration this way.

If you have a fitness wearable or a smartwatch, you can also set alarms on these that remind you to drink more water too.

While you’re at it, consider using your water consumption reminder as a reminder to get up and move around too. You can kill two birds with one stone by stretching out your limbs and rehydrating!

6. Shake up the flavor

If you consider water to be boring, you can always change things up a bit. Muddling fresh herbs like mint and basil into your water can give it a unique taste, so you’re more inclined to want to gulp your drink down.

You can also use water infuser bottles so you can add fresh fruits to your drinks too.

Not only do infused drinks taste a little better, but they can also have a range of other benefits. Many people swear by using drinks infused with mint and lemon to improve the performance of the metabolism.

Even though increasing your water intake might not seem like the most crucial thing to do, it might actually improve your health. You might see a dramatic improvement in your hydration if you commit to just one of these tactics.

And if you’re looking for a water bottle to stay hydrated, then check out GEM Bottles.

The high-quality and unique design is made from BPA-free high borosilicate glass and stainless steel and is suitable for both hot and cold drinks.

But what makes the bottles unique is the removable crystal-releasing energy gem inside. Hi Teresa,

It is a really helpful post for anyone.

How many of us put hydration on our daily to-do list?

Moreover, with fancy drinks around and anywhere water tastes boring and less cool to drink. This is of course my observation.

I drink water, lukewarm water in the morning before brushing my teeth, to neutralize any acid in my stomach by the saliva in my mouth overnight. It actually helped my blood sugar and A1C level.

I drink water 40-45 minutes after my breakfast, lunch, and dinner so that the food I eat is digested by the undiluted hydrochloric acid in the stomach and helps my bowel.

After snack why is typically nuts or fruits, crackers-it asks for water.

When I have a reason, It helps to remember.

I love water with cucumber slices and homegrown mint during summer days.

  2. Stratos K

I know that is imperative to drink at least 2 liters of water per day at minimum but somehow it is increasingly difficult for me to consume so much especially in the winter. In the summer obviously it’s easier but the problem is that these hot days you have to consume even more. I will try your ideas, maybe they will help me because it is imperative to keep our bodies hydrated.

I absolutely love water. It’s actually the only thing I drink and it really does have great benefits. Just like you said good energy and healthier looking skin our my two favorite benefits. What about you what’s your favorite benefit? I love to know. It’s so important for people to drink water more than anything else. Even if one doesn’t enjoy water there are ways to ad flavors to it. I love crystal light . I drink around a gallon and a half a day . And the effects it has are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

thanks for your positive vibes! Water is my go-to drink first thing in the morning with honey and lemon and when I’m thirsty – although my preferred temperature is room-warm rather than ice-cold, even in hot weather!

Like you, my favourite benefits is definitely better complexion and more energy! Thanks for popping by!

      peace & blessings

      Teresa
